Hikes near Canberra
Canberra is a city with a national park attached to it. Black Mountain's summit track starts a couple of kilometres from the centre and Aranda Bushland is barely further, but the serious walking is south-west in Namadgi, which alone accounts for nine of the nineteen tracks here, and in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve next to it. The Centenary Trail is the outlier — a 17 km expert-graded section that circles the city rather than leaving it. Alpine weather applies in Namadgi: it is genuinely cold and exposed up there well outside winter, so download the offline map before you go.
